@guitaristwagner Oh, really? I’ve believed something like that, but I’ve thought that this was a kind of a stereotype, I imagined.

@clarinetta89 thats mainly cause our government brain washes us in thinking that usa is the best country in the world and doesnt really educate us in public schools about better countries like germany france italy or england etc.

I’m German and it’s hard for me to say just “a friend of mine” in English because my dialog partner won’t know whether the friend is male or female and then I wonder how my dialog partner can imagine this person not knowing this. …maybe it’s better to add the name, e.g. “my friend Lisa”.

@guitaristwagner Thankyou! =) Although I think that being awesome doesn’t depend on the nationalty =)
We (think that we) know a lot about the Americans, especially about the celebrities, through the media and almost everybody has an opinion about the USA. But when American celebrities visited Germany or my (female) American pen pal asked me questions about Germany, I noticed that they don’t know a lot about us or maybe never wondered what they think about our culture, language and sights.

I’ve always been told that it is a female friend. Seine freund oder freunden would be boy friend or girl friend.

  8. pixelperfect09 sagt:

eine freundin von mir would be girlfriend oder female friend?

Ich bin auch einen Deutsches Amerikaner. Aber habe ich keinen frisch Deutschkursus gelernt.

It was actually not as hard as it seams. Deutsch is already half Englisch. Also english has a germanic root.

  12. skamic88 sagt:

    oder, eine freundin von mir.

@jojojelle ja und es ist ein bisschen schwer. And I know I can improve a lot and I hope to do so. Ich hätte gern, besser Deutsch zu sprechen. I live in the US and am about 1/8 german.

I wasn’t trying in any way to say that this was wrong, I believe it is right. Where he lives in Germany (und vielleicht du?) I truly believe it is what they say. My Austrian friend says “fruend von mir” and Lee from Korea said it too and it spread throughout my german class.

  18. Entergoniker sagt:

    yes, but this is right.

  19. domoarigato7 sagt:

Ha ha ja in meine Deutsch Klasse, wir sagen “Freund von mir” order “Freundin von mir” wenn wir sprechen über Freunden in generell.

Found you because a (female) friend of mine added you as her favorit. I really like your idea comparing American and German Culture, it’s interesting to know what Americans think about us.
